CAIRO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Museum in Cairo displayed on Wednesday the artifacts recently restored from Italy, official MENA news agency reported.

Sabah Abdel Razek, director of the Egyptian Museum, said in a statement that the visitors of the museum will be briefed on the history of these artifacts scheduled to be on display for one week.

On Friday, the Cairo International Airport received these artifacts, including 195 antiquities and 21,660 coins.

Investigations into the smuggling of the artifacts are still underway, according to Razekm, adding that they were stolen through illicit excavations.

Egypt, one of the most ancient civilizations, has been working hard to preserve its archaeological heritage and discover the secrets of its ancient antiquities in a bid to revive the country's ailing tourism sector, which has been suffering an acute recession over the past few years due to political turmoil and relevant security issues.
